English Classes

I've taught ESL in several different programs, but I've never seen it done quite like we do at Mission Adelante. Our Bhutanese English classes combine quality English curriculum with real relationship building. Most classes have an English speaking partner for every 2 Bhutanese students, so students get lots of speaking practice in every class. Friendships usually develop over the trimester and often lead to friendships outside the classroom, too.

Course topics in the lower two levels cover basics like family, places around town, health problems, time, money and jobs. The upper level classes use actions to learn stories from the Bible. The vocabulary is challenging, and studying in small groups makes it very interactive. The following video is of last summer's level 2 class taking their final exam. It was a small group of around 10 students meeting at the Stetler's home, but there were three other classes as well as Kid's Club meeting at the Mission Adelante building.
